Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Regularly walk on uneven ground, mine benches, haul roads, and active mining areas.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Climb stairs, ladders, and access equipment as required.
  • Frequently work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Occasionally kneel, crawl, stoop, bend, and squat while conducting inspections or investigations.
  • May be required to enter confined or restricted work areas when conducting operational assessments.

Position Overview

The Mine Shift Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and directing mining activities across all active loading areas during the assigned shift. This role ensures mine production activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the mine plan while meeting productivity, quality, and operational performance targets. Working closely with Mine Technical Services, Mine Operations, Crushing Operations, and mining contractors, the Mine Shift Supervisor provides frontline leadership to Mine Technicians and equipment operators. The position is accountable for maintaining safe working conditions, optimizing loading and haulage performance, managing workforce activities, and responding to operational issues that impact production.

Position Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance: Conduct workplace examinations, lead pre-shift safety meetings, ensure compliance with site safety standards, manage fatigue monitoring activities, and ensure personnel remain clear of blast exclusion zones.
  • Incident Management: Respond to incidents, secure and preserve incident scenes, gather statements and evidence, complete required documentation, and submit safety observations and good catches.
  • Production Supervision: Coordinate and supervise mining activities across active loading areas to achieve production, productivity, and operational performance targets.
  • Equipment Performance: Monitor loading unit productivity, haul truck performance, tonnage movement, pit floor conditions, berm compliance, and dust control activities.
  • Operational Coordination: Work closely with operations, technical services, crushing operations, and contractors to address operational issues and minimize production bottlenecks.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise Mine Technicians and equipment operators, conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and administer employee recognition and corrective actions as needed.
  • Workforce Management: Manage crew attendance, vacation scheduling, shift line-outs, and workforce development activities.
  • Administrative Duties: Complete payroll, operational reports, incident documentation, and other required records accurately and on time.

Position Requirements

  • Required 10–15 years of mining experience, preferably in open pit operations.
  • Strong knowledge of drill, blast, load, and haul mining processes.
  • Previous experience in a copper mining operation.
  • Experience supervising mine production crews in a mining environment.
  • Experience using fleet management systems such as MineStar or similar platforms.
  • Experience with SAP or similar purchasing programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify operational issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Valid driver's license.
