About the Location

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations is an open-pit copper mining complex that has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation includes two concentrators, a crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system, four SX plants, and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Morenci is a unique company town with amenities such as company housing or a $750 monthly housing allowance for on-site employees (subject to program guidelines), a newly constructed daycare and community center, library, health-care facilities, state-of-the-art fitness centers, a movie theater, and a skate park. Our Parks and Recreation Division plans activities for all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and control the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit.
  • Assign, supervise, and review the work of staff for the assigned work unit.
  • Implement production plans according to approved schedules; may participate in daily operational duties.
  • Inspect and evaluate work in progress, identify problem areas, and direct remedial action.
  • Conduct performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
  • Prepare estimates of staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts and materials.
  • Approve purchases of materials and equipment; maintain time, materials, and equipment use reports.
  • Requisition tools, supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Train staff in safety procedures and maintain safety data sheets for crews.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, and five years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical mining-related discipline with at least one summer internship (or equivalent) in mining or an industrial environment, including supervisory or lead experience.
  • Additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required.

Skills

  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Pay

The estimated annual pay range for this role is $93,000 - $127,500 (base salary only). This range does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.

Schedule

Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.
