Supervisor, Maintenance
Position Summary
Responsible for daily maintenance functions, providing shift supervision and leadership for Mechanics and Instrument Technicians. You will have oversight of specialty maintenance crafts, contract workers, and equipment vendors. This is a highly dynamic environment with high-speed coffee roasting and production that involves both planned (preventative and reliability) and unplanned activities.
Key Priorities
- Maintain the technical performance of the facility to ensure all production equipment is in the highest state of readiness.
- Evaluate, plan, and schedule shift work using CMMS and planning meetings.
Essence of Role
- Lead shift duties with the goal of reducing and preventing downtime while ensuring safety and compliance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with hands-on support where needed.
Job Duties
- Issue daily work assignments to Instrument Technicians and Mechanics based on needs, information from planners, shift reports, and other means; record in CMMS and verify parts/labor are recorded.
- Develop work schedules to ensure all repairs, inspections, and preventive tasks are completed on schedule; ensure a safe and efficient environment.
- Focus on reducing downtime by proactively addressing equipment and facility priorities across the shift.
- Work closely with operations, production, and facilities teams to prioritize maintenance needs.
- Communicate timelines, impacts, and updates; analyze data to support improvements needed.
- Develop standard work practices, inspect completed jobs, as well as PMs, for quality assurance; respond to unplanned operational and maintenance events.
- Coordinate and execute on-the-job training for Mechanics and Instrument Technicians – providing mentorship and skill development.
- Train, coach, and evaluate team; set performance expectations while ensuring safety compliance.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Compile data for daily operational reports, payroll, and other daily reporting activity.
- Diagnose operational problems, recommend corrective actions, and perform RCM’s when necessary.
- Work with engineering staff to assist in capital equipment replacements.
- Establish and maintain open communication with team relating to all work orders and key information – through the use of communication boards, email, and daily production meetings with operations.
- Promote team involvement and participation in setting goals, priorities, and strategies for safe, efficient, and effective plant/facility operations.
- Conduct regular inspections and solicit operator feedback to root out potential future problems.
- Encourage close partnerships between all departments in operations (QA, Production, Processing, Safety, Engineering).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience within an industrial manufacturing environment; CPG preferred.
- Bachelor's/Associate's degree desired.
- Strong working knowledge of Infor CMMS software, ability to create and close work orders.
- TPM, preventative maintenance, and reliability maintenance experience.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems with electrical and automation (PLCs, HMI) exposure required.
- Regulatory knowledge and understanding of food safety / QA protocols and guidelines.
- Ability to work rotating shifts in support of a 24-7 production operation.
- Working knowledge of PC based systems; expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel; Power BI a plus.
- Must be a problem solver with planning skills (strategic thinker) focused on the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute, which are essential to the position.
- Ability to lead people and get results through others while exhibiting strong leadership traits, i.e., integrity, ownership and a “can-do” attitude; coaching and mentoring experience desired.

- Must be an effective communicator both orally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
Food Safety Requirements and Responsibilities
- Must comply with all Federal, State, Corporate, Warehouse, and Food Safety standards, policies, and guidelines (i.e., HACCP, GMP, SQF, FDA, etc.).
Physical Demands
- Must also be able to walk long distances in factory, non-climate-controlled setting.
- Manual dexterity required for working on machinery; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb vertical ladders.
