About the role

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees preventative and corrective maintenance processes, operating procedures, and supports production operations. This position supervises maintenance team members in a processing environment, ensuring daily preventative maintenance targets are met while minimizing equipment downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise maintenance team members in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coach team members on safety, quality/SQF, efficiency, and cost improvements.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for team members.
  • Attend roll call to assign daily work, answer questions, and provide safety reminders.
  • Monitor and correct team members for PPE, Lockout, and GMP/SQF violations; ensure required tools are carried.
  • Assign work, review/audit PMs, and follow up to ensure quality.
  • Develop work lists, ensure parts availability, and schedule tasks, including weekends.
  • Complete Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5-Minute Downtime Forms for AMS daily.
  • Provide information to AMS for carry-over items and weekend tasks.
  • Communicate downtime and follow-ups to AMS, supervisors, coordinators, managers, and directors.
  • Meet with AMS or Maintenance Supervisor at shift end to review tasks.
  • Monitor radio calls to respond to breakdowns in your area.
  • Audit 10 PMs weekly to assess thoroughness and identify training needs.
  • Review job orders to determine work priorities.
  • Schedule repair, maintenance, and installation of machines/tools to ensure continuous production.
  • Coordinate activities for fabricating or modifying machines/tools to improve manufacturing.
  • Direct maintenance on utility systems (heat, steam, electric power, gas, air).
  • Review production, quality control, and maintenance reports to plan/modify activities.
  • Inspect operating machines/equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Direct training and indoctrination to improve work performance and communicate policies.
  • Confer with workers to resolve complaints or issues.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college/technical school; or 6 months–1 year of related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance leadership experience in a meat processing manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of USDA and HACCP procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work around raw meat.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in extreme hot, cold, wet, humid, and odorous environments.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts and extensive overtime, including weekends.
  • Good computer literacy and ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Results-driven and employee-oriented.
  • Commitment to safety policies and PPE compliance.
  • Strong leadership, motivational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to attend training as needed.
  • Ability to apply math concepts and solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

  • Floor-based position requiring standing and walking for long periods.
  • May occasionally assist in moving boxes up to 90 lbs.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to taste or smell.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires close, distance, and color vision.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, and electrical shock risk.
  • Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals.
  • Loud noise levels typical of the work environment.
