Responsibilities
- Maintain safe working conditions and practices at SHSS, ensuring employees know how to perform their jobs efficiently and safely.
- Instruct employees on the use of personal protective equipment and ensure compliance with company standards.
- Recognize and rectify unsafe working conditions, maintain excellent housekeeping, and ensure proper accident investigation and reporting.
- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
- Align maintenance departmental objectives and activities with the Magna Employee Charter, Magna Corporate Constitution, and Operation Principles.
- Lead and motivate employees, challenge the status quo, and implement creative and innovative solutions.
- Provide direction to employees in facility-related matters and assign daily duties.
- Review completed work for conformance to standards and deliver on commitments while treating people fairly and with respect.
- Respond to employee concerns, including safety issues, in a timely manner.
- Provide clear and specific performance feedback and appraise employee effectiveness during annual developmental reviews.
- Develop others and improve employee performance through coaching, training, and development activities.
- Communicate and train employees to ensure compliance with Technical System Procedures and Instructions.
- Develop an annual maintenance plan, schedule major plant projects, and oversee the implementation of ongoing and preventative maintenance on all SHSS equipment.
- Authorize all maintenance-related purchase orders and promote cost-reduction programs for the maintenance area.
- Ensure compliance with the plant maintenance budget and provide leadership to the maintenance organization to achieve assigned goals.
- Ensure compliance with company guidelines for scheduling outside contractors and expedite lead-time items with suppliers.
- Perform special projects in support of organizational business objectives and other duties as assigned.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional workplace by utilizing employees during downtime or contractual time.
- Lead the implementation of successful job rotations developed by the safety engineer and approved by management.
- Ensure a safe environment by identifying, correcting, or eliminating hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions.
- Enforce safety rules, policies, and procedures consistently and investigate accidents or injuries promptly.
- Train new employees, correct or commend health and safety performance, and conduct performance appraisals.
- Actively participate in the plant safety program by performing regular workplace inspections and conducting safety talks.
- Investigate accidents/incidents promptly and assist in meeting or exceeding plant safety goals.
- Display a positive attitude towards safety and lead by example to ensure a safe and healthful workplace.
- Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards in accordance with the Magna Employee Charter and OSHA.
Qualifications
- Certification in a relevant maintenance trade.
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in an automotive (JIT) Tier 1 manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement processes, lean manufacturing concepts, methods, and principles.
- Understanding of expense budgets, operational planning, and strong project management skills.
- Ability to partner with internal/external customers, suppliers, and contractors.
- Working knowledge of customer shipping requirements, inventory controls, production scheduling, plant/equipment maintenance, engineering systems, and plant raw materials.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and proficiency with Microsoft and other manufacturing-related software.
