Primary Responsibilities
- Train, onboard, cross-train, and assess competency of research technicians while maintaining required training records.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and performance feedback to research technicians.
- Cook up and prioritize technician activities and staffing coverage to support time-sensitive study activities and daily vivarium operations.
- Attend weekly meetings with study coordinators to efficiently plan technician schedules to ensure proper coverage.
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
- Ensure technician activities remain compliant with SOPs, protocols, and regulatory expectations.
- Support AAALAC, IACUC, QA, and client inspections/audits.
- Complete and maintain safety, equipment, and hazardous waste verification logs.
- Complete and maintain environmental health monitoring testing and records and communicate results to the attending veterinarian and in-vivo manager.
- Maintain In-Vivo inventory and order materials as needed.
- Lead weekly research technician meetings with direct reports to communicate study activity assignments.
- Communicate with study coordinators and principal investigators to ensure their needs are being met.
- Escalate performance, compliance, or scheduling concerns to in-vivo manager as appropriate.
- Adapt to changing study priorities and operational needs in a fast-paced research environment.
- Participate in research technician activities, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General/Miscellaneous
- Treat animals humanely and report any concerns over animal care and use.
- Accurately follow study protocols and report any divergences to in-vivo manager and PI immediately.
- Follow company policies (Handbook, SOPs, Program for Care and Use of Animals, IACUC, Dose & Blood collection policy, Aseptic Surgery policy).
- Communicate with management if you can’t meet expectations or need help with priorities.
Education & Experience
- B.S./B.A. in science (biology or equivalent) with 3-year direct laboratory animal work experience, or associate degree with 5 years direct laboratory animal work experience, or 8 years of direct laboratory animal work experience without a college science degree, or equivalent combination of related education and required work experience will be considered with management approval.
- PREFERRED: Animal laboratory research experience with mice and rats, including dosing, in-life sample collections, and necropsy collections.
- PREFERRED: Animal laboratory management experience.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $60,000- $75,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
