About the role
The Indigenous supervisor ensures the execution of daily operations in the historical area, supervising and coaching interpretative staff to create a seamless guest experience.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Indigenous interpretative programming and staff
- Evaluate professional presentations and provide constructive feedback
- Schedule coaching sessions and work with team members to achieve successful results
- Support interpreters in creating historically accurate interpretations
- Coach interpreters to use various interpretive techniques for engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure preservation and conservation of historic buildings
- Develop training materials and update manuals with managers' guidance
- Work with other supervisors, historians, curators, and other departments to conduct coaching sessions and/or implement new interpretative materials
- Maintain accurate daily operational forms, monitor supplies, and communicate needs for daily operations
- Demonstrate good stewardship for all CW historic buildings
- Evaluate situations, communicate, and use sound judgment to achieve a resolution in an impartial manner
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with 2-5 years’ experience or 5 years of relevant experience collaborating with teams in a museum environment
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- At least 21 years of age
- No more than 1 moving violation or at fault accident within 12 months
- No more than 2 moving violations or at fault accidents within 36 months
- No serious motor vehicle violations including excessive speeding, reckless driving, DUI/DWI, suspended or revoked license, etc.

- Strong collaborative skills and willingness to work with teams in coaching and development of interpretative tours and programs
- Excellent presentation and team building skills
- Meticulous and guest focused on hospitality
- Follows defined processes, procedures, and documents situations for long-term resolutions
- Willingness to dress in historical clothing as required by museum operations
- Available to work holidays, weekends, and/or evenings
- Able to embrace an inclusive environment and collaborate with individuals of diverse backgrounds
Skills / Competencies
- Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize responsibilities, and complete projects in a timely manner
- Understanding of historic context and ability to guide a team in conveying early America history to the public
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to adapt to new processes
- Ability to evaluate situations, communicate, and use sound judgment to achieve a resolution in an impartial manner

Compensation
The compensation for this position is $19.47 to $29.28 per hour, depending on the selected candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and the specific requirements of the role.
