About the role

The Child Care Licensing Program at the California Department of Social Services is seeking an analytical, motivated self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills. The Field Support & Training Bureau Chief oversees planning, prioritizing, and work delegation for the Field Support & Training Bureau to ensure efficient operations and achievement of Bureau goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in policy interpretation and implementation, training, staff development, and resource updates.
  • Manage statewide implementation of policies, procedural changes, regulations, and system improvements.
  • Drive process evaluation, identify opportunities for innovation, and lead change management efforts through communication, training, and strategic planning.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality customer service for internal and external partners by setting communication standards and overseeing accurate policy and regulatory guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with Regional Managers and the other Bureau Chiefs to produce clear, aligned program materials and comprehensive training that incorporates adult learning theory.
  • Help develop goals, allocate resources, support regulation development, and perform other duties necessary to advance departmental objectives.

Requirements

The Bureau Chief must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in social services, human services, or a related field. Experience in child care licensing, policy development, and training is preferred. Knowledge of California laws and regulations pertaining to child care licensing is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential.

Qualifications

The Bureau Chief must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Leadership experience and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders are also required.

Skills

Strong analytical and decision-making skills, ability to interpret legislation and regulations, and proficiency in adult learning theory are essential. The Bureau Chief must be able to communicate effectively with staff, leadership, interest groups, and the public.

Benefits

The Bureau Chief will receive competitive compensation, including a starting salary range of $7,872.00 - $9,781.00 per month, based on experience. Additional benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

The starting salary range for this position is $7,872.00 - $9,781.00 per month, based on experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule.
