About the role
Oversee a team of Sewing Machine Operators who complete hanging signs and panels for retail displays using production sewing machines in a high-volume production facility. The Supervisor manages all activities related to the production processes, including running equipment, maintaining product quality, packing, and workflow management to ensure the success of jobs. We will teach you to run the machines.
Responsibilities
- Plan and organize workflow to meet customer ship deadlines
- Supervise and oversee production output of the sewing team
- Coordinate with other departments as needed on workflow
- Manage and ensure all work flowing through the team is accurate, efficient, and timely
- Ensure quality of products before packaging and shipping
- Assemble panels and borders per established work instructions using commercial sewing machines, including sewing borders to panel cloth, applying trims, and using decorative seams
- Operate sewing machines using foot lever and hand control
- Determine seam style according to order/ticket specifications
- Align fabric, backing, aluminum stays, elastic, Velcro, and follow seams, edges, or markings
- Sew parts with various types of stitches such as vertical or straight stitched
- Trim excess threads and edges of parts
- Use gauges to ensure proper placement of stitches on each piece of fabric
- Measure and cut textiles accurately according to design specifications
- Hand repair any weaknesses in seams
- Sort, fold, and stack fabrics, borders, or panels as needed
- Change needles and re-thread machines as needed
- Perform quality inspections for all seams sewn
- Perform all duties according to established safety and efficiency procedures
- Maintain workstation in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion
- Perform minor maintenance on machines, including re-threading and replacing needles
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a production environment required
- Prior experience in the sewing/textile industry utilizing related machines preferred (we will train the right candidate)
- Oral and written communication skills required
- Ability to lead and manage production line workers, preferably in sewing
- Ability to plan sewing production workflow and staffing
- Knowledge of sewing methods, procedures, and practices
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage time efficiently, and meet shifting deadlines
- Uncompromising attention to detail
- Ability to sit or stand for 10+ hour periods
- Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions on production orders
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Position is highly repetitious and involves occasional moving of moderately heavy materials, up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Ability to develop creative solutions to client and internal problems
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English (bilingual a plus)
