About the role

Responsible for the overall supervision, planning, direction, and execution of work for non-exempt and/or exempt employees in a medium or large operational unit. This role oversees complex clerical, administrative, trade, or technical functions that provide services both inside and outside the organization. Work performed is non-routine and involves complex semi-skilled, skilled, or technical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, expertise, and direction in water distribution activities for various water facilities and systems within the Dallas Water Utility. Supervises dam maintenance, pump stations, and other facilities to ensure effective water distribution to citizens and customers. Prioritizes tasks, schedules and assigns maintenance requests, and ensures staff complete work on schedule with clear performance expectations.
• Hires, trains, and evaluates staff performance; enforces discipline. Verifies and approves time, manages equipment, tools, and technology, and performs other supervisory tasks for department personnel.
• Participates in the development and implementation of long-range plans, programs, and schedules. Contributes to budget and resource allocation, sets goals and objectives, and coordinates oversight of all water distribution operations to ensure consistent and uninterrupted service.
• Identifies, troubleshoots, and addresses issues with water distribution methods and facilities. Evaluates preventative maintenance standards, assists in correcting equipment failures, performs audits, and provides technical and mechanical direction.
• Plans, controls, supervises, and coordinates maintenance activities. Conducts staff meetings to ensure equipment availability, reliability, and capacity in support of water meters and related work.
• Monitors and oversees plant and facility performance to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Supervises the use and application of chemicals, tracks inventory, files necessary paperwork, and optimizes maintenance activities.
• Resolves employee complaints or grievances; refers serious issues to higher-level managers. Recommends or effects disciplinary actions as needed.
• Implements methods to improve production or effectiveness.
• Performs any other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six (6) years of experience in Water, Wastewater, or Stormwater areas, including Construction, Engineering, Operations, or Maintenance.
• Two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience (may be included in the six years of required experience).
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Some positions may require a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at the time of application or within the probationary period.
• Some positions may require specific licensure from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) at the time of application or within the probationary period.
• May require varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• May be subject to 24/7 call-out.

Pay

$29.12 - $35.35 per hour. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications.
