About the Role
The Supervisor - Construction Inspection oversees, plans, and ensures the efficient and compliant execution of construction inspection for water and wastewater utility projects. This role involves supervising inspectors, coordinating field activities, and providing expertise on non-routine projects while ensuring adherence to city, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, directs, and coordinates the activities of construction inspectors on water and wastewater utility construction projects; delegates, assigns, and oversees tasks.
- Approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources, and work plans as needed.
- Assists management with implementing inspection procedures, policies, and standards; provides recommendations and handles requests from residents and property owners.
- Performs challenging inspections and provides expertise for non-routine projects; reviews licenses and permits for compliance.
- Supervises field activities conducted by inspectors and contractors outside normal business hours for emergencies, critical construction, or approved after-hours work.
- Available 24/7 during construction activities to direct, assist, and perform inspection duties as needed.
- Evaluates inspection goals, ensures timely completion, and oversees identification and enforcement of non-compliant issues.
- Assists in hiring processes, participates in job fairs and interview panels, and evaluates staff performance.
- Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively and responding to concerns professionally.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six (6) years of experience inspecting the design/construction of water or wastewater facilities projects.
- Two (2) years of supervisory/management experience (may be included in the six years of inspection experience).
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Skills
- Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, and construction standards.
- Knowledge of safety rules and precautions for construction and inspection.
- Knowledge of construction trades, inspection procedures, and identifying non-compliant issues.
- Ability to supervise, coordinate, and facilitate inspection work.
- Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, construction plans, and specifications.
- Ability to inspect activities using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and heavy construction equipment.
- Ability to resolve technical issues and provide expertise.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to produce clear, organized reports and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Ability to guide and support other inspection personnel.
Preferences
- Experience in construction inspection of water/wastewater pipelines or public infrastructure projects.
- Experience in wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, tanks, metering vaults, or related facilities.
- Familiarity with construction of 4160v (or higher) electrical cables and equipment.
- Current American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician-Grade I certificate.
- Experience in water facility treatment plants, pump stations, tanks, or related facilities.
Pay
Salary range: $60,569.60 - $73,528.00. The starting salary will depend on qualifications.
