Job Summary

The Supervisor, Interventional Radiology supervises, plans, organizes, and coordinates the activities and work flows of the perioperative staff employed in the PACU, SSU, Interventional Radiology, or Cardiology. This position works with the managers and directors within preoperative services. The position also acts as a liaison between perioperative services and IT, customer service, patient accounting, nursing, and the employed and non-employed physicians when appropriate.

Specialty Job Functions

  • Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, scheduling, and educating departmental staff.
  • Oversees the day-to-day management of the department and is responsible for work schedules, payroll, attendance, and PTO management.
  • Collaborates with peers and CNCs across perioperative services to coordinate work and patient flow within areas of responsibility and across the continuum.
  • Affords assistance to management and physician offices with changes requested to the schedule.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Manages nursing supplies inventory by setting up systems to anticipate needs, verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Identifies and organizes patient care requirements by developing plans of care and putting support systems in place for potential and actual patients, and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Organizes and maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations which provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Affords assistance to department management in project management activities by facilitating meetings, developing materials for projects, and developing tools used for projects such as spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Keeps abreast of new procedures, treatments, drugs, equipment related to the care of the postoperative patient to assure progressive Peri-operative care within areas of responsibility.
  • Affords assurance of quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, making or recommending necessary adjustments, and by following system/hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs using Nurse Knowledge Exchange techniques.
  • Initiates any corrective action plans for staff not meeting performance standards.
  • Affords assistance to department management in the development of policies, procedures, practices and standards of the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years supervisory/management experience in a hospital setting.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
