About the role

The Supervisor, Medical Billing & Insurance Verification is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of billing and insurance discovery activities supporting Baxter Cardiology. This position leads a team responsible for the accurate and timely identification of insurance coverage, claim submission, and resolution of billing-related issues across Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid lines of business.

The supervisor is accountable for achieving departmental performance goals related to medical billing and insurance discovery, productivity, quality, compliance, and customer service. Responsibilities include supervising staff, monitoring operational performance, ensuring adherence to payer and regulatory requirements, identifying process improvement opportunities, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to optimize revenue cycle outcomes and maximize reimbursement.

The role serves as a leader and change agent by promoting employee engagement, fostering continuous improvement, and supporting organizational initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of medical billing and insurance discovery professionals, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee development.
  • Oversee daily billing and insurance discovery operations to ensure timely claim submission, reimbursement follow-up, and issue resolution.
  • Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, quality, billing accuracy, insurance discovery success, and service levels.
  • Analyze billing, claims, and payer trends to identify challenges and implement solutions that improve reimbursement outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer requirements, and other applicable regulations.
  • Drive process improvements to increase clean claim rates, reduce denials, and accelerate reimbursement.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Management, Patient Financial Services, Compliance, Operations, and other stakeholders to optimize performance and resolve complex issues.
  • Lead departmental initiatives, workflow enhancements, system implementations, and change management efforts while ensuring operational efficiency and team engagement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, medical billing, insurance discovery, claims management, or reimbursement operations.
  • 2+ years of supervisory, team lead, or people leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid billing and reimbursement processes.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and other federal, state, and local healthcare compliance regulations.
  • Experience utilizing billing systems, reimbursement platforms, and revenue cycle technologies.
  • Familiarity with clearinghouses, payer portals, eligibility verification systems, and insurance discovery tools preferred.
  • Understanding of broader revenue cycle functions, including claims processing, denial management, accounts receivable, prior authorizations, and reimbursement follow-up; experience with cardiology devices or specialty healthcare billing is a plus.

Schedule

Pay

The estimated base salary for this position is $60,000 - $82,500 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
