About the role

The Supervisor, Accessioning plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of the Biological Sample Management (BSM) department at Adaptive Biotechnologies. This position oversees the accessioning team, manages specimen accessioning, sample returns and discards, and freezer management. The role also involves supervising and training team members, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily tasks and priorities of the accessioning team, ensuring safe working conditions and adherence to protocols.
  • Manage specimen accessioning, sample returns and discards, and freezer management.
  • Create, maintain, and modify laboratory schedules; plan and manage time for self and team to meet deadlines.
  • Review employee performance and development, providing corrective action and coaching as needed.
  • Select and hire new employees, track employee PTO, and approve timecards.
  • Assist in training new and incumbent team members.
  • Lead by example, model appropriate behavior, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on scheduling and training activities.
  • Monitor incoming workflow from logistics vendors, communicate changes in workload, and develop, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Organize, lead, and participate in projects contributing to the company's mission and growth.
  • Ensure alignment with team for reasoning behind instructions/processes, workflow changes, and reasons certain ideas cannot be implemented.
  • Develop and prepare key performance indicators for department success, and present pertinent information in daily huddles and department meetings.
  • Identify and escalate nonconformances, deviations, and CA/PA issues that could impact quality or result in delays.
  • Comply with regulatory standards per Good Clinical Practices (GCP), CAP, and CLIA, including preparing for and participating in audits.

Requirements

  • Earned BS degree in a Chemical, Physical or Biological Science + 7 years of related experience.
  • OR Earned MS degree with a major in Chemical, Physical or Biological Science + 4 years of related experience.
  • Supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Experience in a high throughput clinical, research or pathology testing laboratory.
  • Experience managing hourly employees.
  • Molecular biology skills (e.g., DNA extraction) and related technical knowledge.
  • Experience with laboratory automation and demonstrated laboratory best practices.
  • Ability to work in an accurate and timely manner in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to pivot priorities based on emerging and fast-changing business needs.
  • Experience with LIMS systems such as LabVantage, and web-based applications.
  • High integrity and experience with HIPAA compliance.
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service.
  • Additional trainings or courses relevant to the role.
