About the role
The incumbent leads and manages the District 6 Project Initiation and Local Assistance programs. Responsibilities include oversight of the Project Initiation Document (PID) program, including feasibility studies and project nomination activities, as well as the Local Assistance program, which involves oversight of local agency projects and funding along with a commitment to partnership and customer service.
Responsibilities

- Handling complex and sensitive projects that are high priorities to the Department and local agencies under the guidance of the Deputy District Director (DDD).
- Ongoing coordination and engagement with many internal and external partners and the public on various issues.
- Making high-level decisions and recommendations.
- Coordination between branches within the Division and other District functions, including defining roles and responsibilities and ensuring frequent communication.
- Overseeing Local Assistance, PID resources, workload commitments, and some administrative activities within the Division.
- Developing and strengthening internal and external partnerships and fostering collaborative approaches to creating, implementing, and achieving overall Department goals and objectives.
Requirements
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- One year of transportation engineering experience as a senior level engineer in the California state service.
- Two years of civil engineering work at the Associate Engineer level or higher in the California state service.
- Broad and extensive (more than five years) transportation engineering experience, two years of which are equivalent in responsibility to the senior level engineer in the California state service.
