SUPERVISING PSYCHIATRIC SOCIAL WORKER I, CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

About the Role

Under the general direction of the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker II, the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I, Correctional Facility (SPSW I, CF) plans, organizes, and directs the psychiatric Telesocial Work Program. Responsibilities include maintaining adherence to social work policies, conducting staff meetings, training and evaluating staff, performing or supervising research, participating in staff conferences, and assisting in the development of effective social work procedures. The role also involves collaborating with institutional and headquarters staff to improve policies and procedures related to the social work program, as well as providing general supervision to Clinical Social Workers. Statewide travel is required.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces the base salary of full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 19 by 3% and provides 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries listed do not reflect these changes.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the psychiatric Telesocial Work Program.
• Maintain adherence to departmental social work policies.
• Conduct staff meetings and train staff.
• Evaluate staff performance and take or recommend appropriate action.
• Perform or supervise research related to psychiatric social work.
• Participate in staff conferences and assist in developing effective social work procedures.
• Collaborate with institutional and headquarters staff to improve social work policies and procedures.
• Provide general supervision to Clinical Social Workers.
• Statewide travel is required.

Benefits

• Eligible employees may receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment with CCHCS.
• Eligible employees may receive a monthly recruitment and retention differential during their first year (totaling $20,000).
• CDCR and CCHCS employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.

Location

This position is located in the Mental Health Program, which provides ethical, professional, and effective mental health care services for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions statewide. Positions are available at HQ or Regional Offices in the following counties: Sacramento, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and Orange.
