Supervising Programmer/Analyst

About the Role
This position is for a system analyst with a strong focus on cloud architecture design, implementation, administration, and integration across public cloud and on-premises environments. The role partners with cross-functional teams to drive cloud adoption, optimize infrastructure, and align solutions with business goals. Responsibilities include designing end-to-end cloud solutions, leading cloud migration initiatives, and establishing cloud governance, security, compliance, and Cloud Center of Excellence practices. The position also provides system administration and technical support across Linux, Windows, network, and hypervisor platforms for member campuses. Additionally, the role offers technical leadership, mentorship, and training while supporting senior management in system planning and standards development. Team Lead supervisory duties are required.
Location: Buffalo, NY. An office location at a New York State or SUNY Institution may be possible.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate cloud environments using AWS, Azure, or other public cloud providers.
- Lead cloud migration initiatives and establish cloud governance, security, and compliance practices.
- Provide system administration and technical support across Linux, Windows, network, and hypervisor platforms.
- Supervise a team and provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training.
- Support senior management in system planning, standards development, and decision-making.
- Deploy and manage enterprise networks (firewalls, routers, switches, ACLs) and wide-area networks using BGP.
- Manage hybrid connectivity and traffic using load balancers, DNS, VPNs, Azure ExpressRoute, and AWS Direct Connect.
- Design and operate secure environments using IAM, encryption, threat detection platforms, and compliance frameworks (ISO, SOC2, HIPAA).
- Administer Windows services (IIS, Active Directory, DNS) and UNIX/Linux services (web, mail, SSH, NFS).
- Utilize infrastructure automation and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, PowerCLI).
- Deploy and manage VMware products (Horizon, Workspace ONE, vRealize suite).
- Apply ITIL and ITSM/ITOM frameworks in an educational environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field.
- Progressive relevant professional work experience in Information Technology.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or other public cloud providers).
- Experience in network design, deployment, administration, and operations.
- Technical support experience with the ability to work various shifts in a 24×7 operational environment.
- Strong presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supervising a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with core and non-core cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP, Oracle), including compute, storage, networking, identity, security, Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Arc, and hybrid connectivity.
- Familiarity with load balancers, DNS, VPNs, Azure ExpressRoute, and AWS Direct Connect.
- Ability to design secure environments using IAM, encryption, threat detection platforms, and compliance frameworks (ISO, SOC2, HIPAA).
- Strong working knowledge of Windows services (IIS, Active Directory, DNS) and UNIX/Linux services (web, mail, SSH, NFS).
- Experience with virtualization platforms (ESXi, Hyper-V, Azure Local).
- Proficiency with infrastructure automation and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, PowerCLI).
- Professional deployment and management of VMware products (Horizon, Workspace ONE, vRealize suite).
- Experience with ITIL and ITSM/ITOM frameworks and tools.
- Prior work experience in an educational environment.
Pay
$77,346 - $143,611; competitive based on experience.
