About the role
The Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney is one of the nation's largest municipal law offices. It provides comprehensive legal services to the City of Los Angeles, including criminal prosecution, civil enforcement, and advisory roles in various city departments and committees.
Responsibilities
- Manage up to ten attorneys and support staff in the Community Investment and Equity Division
- Provide legal advice and representation to City departments and committees
- Organize and direct daily operations, including staffing assignments and performance reviews
- Supervise attorneys and support staff, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery
- Participate in meetings and hearings before the City Council and its committees
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in all California courts
- Minimum ten (10) years of legal experience
- Experience in local, state, or federal anti-discrimination laws
- Familiarity with Brown Act, California Public Records Act, and contracting laws
- Problem-solving and professional communication skills
- Research and writing proficiency in complex legal areas
- Experience with local ordinance drafting and civil litigation
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Experience with federal grant programs and public grantmaking
- Writing samples of recent briefs, reports, or legal research memos
