About the role

Assume overall responsibility for the supervision and administration of the Policy and Rehearings Branch (PRB). As an integral part of the Division’s management team, responsible for working collaboratively with other members of the management team in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the PRB and division.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor the quality of rehearing analyses to meet statutory requirements and departmental standards.
  • Timely review and distribute rehearing requests throughout the PRB.
  • Act on behalf of the Director in reviewing proposed decisions, including adopting, preparing an alternate decision, or recommending a further hearing.
  • Advise and consult with Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) on emerging legal points and provide regular training.
  • Develop and implement efficiency steps to enhance PRB and Division productivity.
  • Maintain and allocate resources for the PRB.
  • Monitor ALJ performance and address issues promptly to ensure compliance with the Division's mission.

Requirements

  • Experience supervising and managing administrative law judges.
  • Knowledge of administrative law and due process procedures.
  • Ability to manage budgets and plan resource needs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., law, social work, public policy).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in administrative law or related field.
  • Experience in due process hearings and decision-making processes.
  • Knowledge of California laws and regulations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

$12,170.00 - $16,813.00 per year.
