About the Role
Oversees daily processing operations with a commitment to employee safety, product quality, and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Manages plant staffing, including supervisors and their direct reports.
- Estimates appropriate staffing levels to meet business and budgetary goals.
- Responsible for scheduling direct reports and directing training to achieve efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Acquaints workers with company policies and procedures and determines job priorities.
- Ensures production of superior quality products to eliminate customer complaints and achieve customer satisfaction.
- Reviews job orders, production reports, and quality control statistics to plan and modify production activities.
- Develops and implements new methods and procedures to improve operations, minimize costs, and optimize labor and materials utilization.
- Maintains costing efficiency through efficient production operations and adequate product yields.
- Allocates resources in line with established cost structures and measures efficiency by comparing production goals to actual runs.
- Completes all required paperwork within established time frames.
- Oversees processing operations to reduce waste and collaborates with other departments.
- Manages office supplies inventory to stay within budget.
- Maintains facilities' safety records and ensures compliance with Simmons policies, OSHA regulations, and FDA/USDA standards.
- Leads the department by example, motivating employees to maintain or exceed run rates, yields, and safety records.
- Ensures facilities are audit- and tour-ready in compliance with policies, regulations, and customer specifications.
- Interacts with various departments, customers, and government agencies to meet production expectations.
- Monitors quality, safety, scheduling, personnel, and mechanical status of the plant.
- Collaborates with Human Resources, Safety, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Shipping teams.
- Communicates effectively at all levels to resolve employee problems and conflicts.
- Manages employees, including directing work activities, screening and hiring candidates, administering disciplinary actions, and recommending compensation decisions.
- Fosters a cooperative and harmonious work environment to promote positive employee morale and productivity.
- Participates in team development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Supports Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and communicates concerns or improvement ideas.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience supervising or leading employees in manufacturing or related fields.
- Experience in a food processing organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Physical Activities
- Enters and locates information on a computer, often verifying small print.
- Communicates with customers, vendors, or employees via telephone, in person, or electronic mail.
- May present information to small or large groups.
- Works in various temperatures within a manufacturing environment.
- Moves about in a manufacturing facility and surrounding property.
- May travel via car or plane to various work locations.
- Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the facility.
Schedule
