Responsibilities

• Leads and oversees the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsite.
• In charge of the overall safety of the jobsite, including the implementation of the safety plans and procedures.
• Reviews record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedule to determine the nature and scope of the project, materials, manpower requirements (by craft) for each construction phase, and equipment needs.
• Plans the physical layout of the jobsite with the project manager, including site security, office trailers, utility hookups, cranes, hoists, material storage, and parking.
• Directs field engineers in the initial survey and layout of the jobsite; ensures dimensional control lines and elevations are verified by certified third-party surveyors before foundation work begins.
• Plans daily and weekly activities for each craft, including detailed schedule forecasts, and provides technical instructions to foremen to ensure clarity on work methods, resources, and deadlines.
• Works with the project office to resolve ambiguities in plans and drawings before construction begins.
• Establishes procedures for ordering self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers.
• Inspects all field construction work (including subcontracted work) to maintain high-quality workmanship; supervises or appoints staff to oversee all on-site activities, addressing deficiencies promptly.
• Provides technical guidance to resolve day-to-day construction problems; investigates alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality.
• Assists in evaluating schedule and cost impacts and developing manpower and equipment projection charts.
• Monitors weekly labor costs and takes corrective action to improve productivity when costs exceed budget; investigates and addresses construction delays.
• Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes, as well as company policies on employment, labor relations, and safety.
• Manages scheduling of all governmental inspections required to obtain a certificate of occupancy.
• Assumes overall responsibility for employee health and safety, including first aid areas, emergency facilities, OSHA inspections, and hazard correction.
• Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with owners, architects, consulting firms, and other stakeholders; resolves problems through direct negotiation.
• Performs project close-out tasks, including punch lists, demobilization, as-built documents, and daily reporting of field activities.

Requirements

• B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience.
• Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).
• 4+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience.
• Proficient with reading plans and specifications.
• Ability to build and manage direct reports.
