Austin Commercial is seeking a healthcare Superintendent for our North Texas division. Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsite, including overall safety implementation and enforcement of safety plans and procedures.
  • Review record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedules to determine project scope, materials, manpower, equipment needs, and craft requirements for each construction phase.
  • Plan the physical layout of the jobsite, including site security, office trailers, utility hookups, crane/hoist placement, material storage, and parking.
  • Direct field engineers in initial survey and layout; verify dimensional control lines and elevations with certified third-party surveyors before foundation work begins.
  • Plan daily and weekly activities for each craft, providing detailed technical instructions to foremen to ensure clarity on work methods, resources, and deadlines.
  • Resolve ambiguities in plans and drawings with project office staff before construction begins.
  • Establish procedures for ordering self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers.
  • Inspect all field construction work (including subcontracted work) to maintain high-quality workmanship; supervise or appoint staff to oversee all jobsite activities regardless of time or day.
  • Provide technical guidance to resolve day-to-day construction problems; investigate alternative methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and consulting firms to address and resolve issues.
  • Assist the project manager in evaluating schedule and cost impacts, developing manpower and equipment projection charts, and monitoring labor/equipment costs for budget conformance.
  • Investigate construction delays and adjust leadership, crew sizes, or equipment as needed to ensure timely project completion.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes, as well as company policies on employment, labor relations, and safety.
  • Manage scheduling of governmental inspections to obtain certificates of occupancy.
  • Assume responsibility for employee health and safety, including designating first aid areas, emergency facilities, and correcting safety hazards.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with owners, architects, consulting firms, and other stakeholders; resolve problems through direct negotiation.
  • Foster training and development of subordinates through on-the-job opportunities, company programs, and external learning.
  • Lead career planning and development for project staff, including merit increases, promotions, and staffing decisions.
  • Oversee project completion tasks, including close-out punch lists, demobilization, as-built documents, and daily reporting of field activities.

Requirements

  • B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience.
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training (may obtain within first year of employment).
  • 6+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience.
  • Proficient with reading plans and specifications.
  • Ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
  • Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States; Austin Commercial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
