Superintendent (North Texas) - Austin Commercial
About the role
Austin Commercial is seeking a Healthcare Superintendent for our North Texas division. This role provides overall direction and control of the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned job sites. Depending on the size of the project, this position may either lead a project or oversee a designated portion of a larger project. Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead day-to-day field construction activities on assigned job sites.
- Ensure overall safety at the jobsite, including implementation of safety plans and procedures.
- Review record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedules to determine project scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
- Plan the physical layout of the jobsite, including site security, office trailers, utility hookups, cranes, hoists, and material storage.
- Direct field engineers in initial survey and layout; verify dimensional control lines and elevations with certified surveyors before foundation work.
- Plan daily and weekly activities for each craft, providing detailed technical instructions to foremen.
- Establish procedures for ordering self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools.
- Inspect all field construction work in progress to maintain high-quality workmanship; supervise or appoint staff to oversee all on-site activities.
- Provide technical guidance to resolve day-to-day construction problems and investigate alternative methods to improve efficiency.
- Assist the project manager in evaluating schedule and cost impacts, developing manpower and equipment projection charts, and monitoring labor/equipment costs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes related to construction activities.
- Manage scheduling of governmental inspections to obtain a certificate of occupancy.
- Assume responsibility for the health and safety of employees, including OSHA compliance and emergency preparedness.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, architects, consulting firms, and other stakeholders.
- Foster training and development of subordinates through on-the-job and company-sponsored programs.
- Lead career planning and development for project staff, including merit increases and promotions.
- Perform project close-out tasks, including punch lists, demobilization, and as-built documents.
- Maintain detailed and accurate daily reports of all field construction activities.
Requirements
- B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience.
- Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training (may obtain within first year of employment).
- 6+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience.
- Proficient with reading plans and specs.
- Ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
- Must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States; Austin Commercial is unable to sponsor employment visas.
