Key Responsibilities
- Provide site-based technical oversight of mechanical piping systems work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and quality requirements.
- Support safe execution of construction activities by promoting approved safety plans, participating in site safety meetings, and identifying unsafe practices and hazards.
- Monitor daily progress of mechanical piping installations and record observations on work quality and installed quantities.
- Review contractor work progress, inspections, and testing activities, and support effective coordination of technical assurance inspections.
- Aid in resolving construction quality issues and initiate corrective action where deficiencies are identified through inspections or audits.
- Maintain close coordination with construction management and discipline supervision during construction and pre-commissioning phases.
- Prepare punch lists and help expedite completion of rework and corrective actions.
- Perform visual examinations, review welding inspection reports, and support planning and scheduling of nondestructive examination activities.
- Verify implementation of inspection and evaluation methods and support investigation of quality inspection issues.
- Carry out quality audits and surveillance activities, including oversight of weld consumable control requirements and daily audit planning.
- Support project risk identification and mitigation activities related to the mechanical piping scope.
- Provide leadership to the site mechanical piping team to help achieve quality, safety, and schedule objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong experience in mechanical piping installations on major construction projects.
- Knowledge of welding processes including SMAW, SAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, PAW, ESW, soldering, brazing, and thermal or mechanical cutting methods.
- Understanding of inspection and testing methods including VT, MT, UT, PT, RT, and related quality procedures, audits, and surveillance activities.
- Ability to interpret welding symbols, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of welding metallurgy and practical application within construction quality activities.
- Experience supporting safety compliance, quality assurance, inspections, and contractor oversight in a site construction environment.
- Desirable: Experience working within US Gulf Coast construction practices.
- Desirable: Previous leadership experience overseeing inspectors, coordinators, or general foremen within a mechanical piping scope.
