Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee mechanical construction of the leach plant circuit expansion, paste plant and surface facilities for the underground projects.
- Manage construction contractors, oversee the quality control of contractor work, and work with the owner's team to ensure implementation of best practices for maintenance and operation of new equipment and facilities.
- Comply with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
- Promote safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.
- Report all personal injuries and incidents and assist with investigations.
- Support and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
- Maintain accountability for personal safety and the safety of others while protecting the environment.
- Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.
- Coordinate incident investigations that occur within area of control.
- Participate in planning meetings to review drawings, determine priorities, and assist in scheduling the work.
- Establish and monitor mechanical construction methods and practices for most effective cost control for work schedule, labor, materials, and equipment needs.
- Work with project manager for the control, care/protection, and use of tools, equipment, and company assets on site.
- Confer with supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to maximize efficiency and prevent delays.
- Aid project manager and engineer with change orders and extra work requests.
- Schedule major process equipment deliveries.
- Coordinate mechanical work with civil and electrical work.
- Coordinate with process equipment vendors at start-up.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure the likelihood that workmanship conforms to specifications and meets construction schedules.
- Meet regularly with engineer and inspectors regarding required work, quality of work, and other job-related issues.
- Resolve construction problems and improve construction methods with project manager, engineer, and inspectors.
- Assist in preparation of progress reports, materials, and job-related costs.
- Assist project manager with project close out.
- Coordinate efficiency and relationships between all key personnel involved with the project.
- Maintain a strong line of communication & reporting on key performance indicators to the Construction Manager and Operations Teams.
- Avoid transitioning projects to the operational phase.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Operational

- Monitor the contractor teams and align their activities as necessary to ensure requirements are achieved.
- Communicate regularly with all staff to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood and to promote a harmonious working environment.
Technical
- Knowledge of surface mining plants and equipment in particular:
- Leach tank circuits – Gold Mine Process Plant
- Surface Paste Plant
- Surface workshop and warehouse
- Surface office facilities
- Surface and underground pumping infrastructure
- Surface Ventilation Fans
- UG mobile equipment
- Manage the flow of technical information between mechanics, contractors, electricians, and mine operations.
- Actively exchange technical information and learnings within the organization to maintain awareness of internal projects, developments and trends.
Risk
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities for mining construction by the Projects group.
Quality
- Ensure all activities within area of control are completed to the specifications nominated for the works being undertaken.
- Ensure all works under area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users’ requirements.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
- Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
- Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with surface facilities for a hard rock operation
- 15+ years’ relevant experience of which 5+ years would have been in a senior construction role
- Experienced with both start-up projects and operating environments.
- Trade Qualifications or Degree in Engineering or related discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical).
- MSHA 40 HR Trained or past MSHA training
- Ability to manage dispute resolution and issues effecting project delivery.
- Strong results orientation and ability to consistently deliver against the plan.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative working style, building strong internal and external relationships.
- A hands-on approach to the management of staff, contractors and projects.
- Ability to work harmoniously in cross cultural environments.
- Ability to engage external consultants and contractors.

- A motivated self-starter who can operate autonomously and is a natural leader.
- A high degree of computer literacy is required, with effective skills in MS products desired.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues.
