Construction Superintendent

About the role

Supervise mobile crews performing railroad track construction, maintenance, repair, alteration, and demolition. Manage daily crew scheduling, job-site productivity, safety, equipment, materials, and customer requirements. Serve as the senior safety coordinator for the office and work closely with the Area Manager and Foremen. Frequent travel to railroad job sites, including overnight and short-notice assignments.

Responsibilities

• Train and supervise railroad construction crews.
• Schedule daily jobs and crews to meet customer requirements.
• Assist Foremen with job planning and execution.
• Visit job sites to monitor progress, productivity, and safety.
• Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Enforce company safety rules, regulations, and PPE requirements.
• Conduct safety meetings, JSA reviews, and regular job-site/equipment inspections.
• Complete and document at least 12 safety inspections per month.
• Review crew timesheets, JSAs, and truck inspection records for accuracy.
• Coordinate delivery of equipment and materials to job sites.
• Conduct railroad track inspections and prepare detailed reports.
• Maintain daily communication with Foremen regarding job progress, staffing, equipment, and material needs.
• Coordinate scheduling and materials with the Area Manager.
• Monitor proper use and maintenance of railroad tools, equipment, and crew trucks.
• Handle disciplinary documentation and report issues to management.
• Respond to emergencies after hours, weekends, and holidays when required.

Qualifications

• Previous railroad construction and maintenance experience required.
• Knowledge of railroad track specifications, standards, and construction practices.
• Experience supervising or leading mobile construction crews.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to recognize and respond to audible and visual safety signals.
• Knowledge of railroad tools and equipment, including rail saws, rail drills, generators, tampers, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
• Ability to oversee maintenance and repairs of crew trucks and equipment.
• Valid driver's license with no more than 3 moving violations within the past 3 years.
• Track Inspector Certification, or ability to obtain certification, if required.
• Ability to travel extensively, including overnight and short-notice assignments.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and demanding job-site conditions.
• Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
