Key Responsibilities

  • Being the site safety champion: ensure the safety of all crew members and the public who may interact with the job.
  • Following and enforcing company policies and procedures with all crew personnel and sub-contractors.
  • Training and mentoring new employees: participating in the 30-60-90 training program, and following up with all new employees to ensure their successful completion in the 30-60-90 program.
  • Confirm all information has been entered into the Quickbase Observation Tracking Tool.
  • Train and Mentor Project Rep and Foreman level employees to promote continuous growth.
  • Touring the job site with the Estimator/PM to review scope, schedule and hazards.
  • Become familiar with the project and contracted scope of work.
  • As needed, distribute project information to the Project Rep.
  • Ensure Project Pep has all the necessary information to successfully manage and oversee operations in your absence.
  • Within 3 days of receipt of job folder, establish contact with customer and review scope and schedule.
  • Review plans, specs and work orders frequently.
  • Communicate with project managers and identify changes to scope of work and if change orders are necessary.
  • Document day's activities and submit documentation to construction and operations managers, project managers and estimators.
  • Attend and participate in bid reviews, handoff meetings and cost reviews.
  • Communicate and coordinate upcoming equipment and personnel needs with the scheduling department.
  • Communication should be 3 weeks in advance. If working a night shift, all scheduling needs are to be submitted to the scheduling department by 9:00 am the following morning.
  • Identify and communicate the need for specialty equipment ie; dump head buggy's, fabric tractors, shoulder machines, scrapers, haul trucks, GPS equipment, models etc.
  • Communicate schedule or changes to schedule with Customers and sub-contractors 3 weeks in advance.
  • Schedule and coordinate any necessary material testing.
  • Review and confirm the accuracy of the information entered in paver tracker daily.
  • Evaluate crew performance and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Project all aggregate, asphalt and trucking needs, weekly, using the Line Up platform.
  • Ensure correct Asphalt oil is identified in the projections.
  • Attend weekly scheduling meetings.
  • Prepare and participate in scheduling meeting safety discussions.
  • Track job progress and participate in project billings.
  • Communicate with customers, inspectors and members of the general public in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Supervising and coordinating daily crew activities and reviewing production schedules.
  • Cooking necessary traffic control and distributing information to all impacted.
  • Verify with T/C foreman that there is a clear understanding of the traffic control and flagging needs.
  • Actively managing on-site equipment and T/C devices.
  • Measuring square footage and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts (material yields).
  • Production performance: recommend methods to improve safety, production targets, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
  • Estimating work requirements to meet or enhance the estimated production targets.
  • Detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment and correct.
  • Using the Quickbase Employees evaluation tool, perform employee evaluations as assigned by the construction or operations managers.
  • Trucking Performance: refer to the work order for number and type of trucks, spacing of trucks and load times required to haul asphalt or aggregate from the hot plant or pit.
  • Having time and materials records approved in B2W Track daily by 10:00 am for payroll processing.
  • Ensuring all crews have submitted time for approval by 9:00 AM.
  • Completing daily truck orders in Line Up no later than 1:00 pm.
  • Confirming that foreman have completed truck orders by 1:00pm.
  • Staying in contact with the foreman regarding when trucks load at start of shift, trucking, asphalt or aggregate production delays, inclement weather, asphalt/aggregate quality, and end of day cut off.
  • Able to work day and night shifts as necessary.
  • Ensuring all necessary tools and equipment are on hand and available (drinking water, PPE, shovels, rakes, release sprayer, Yak-Trax traction cleats, plate compactors, hearing protection, safety glasses or prescription safety glasses, face shields, metatarsal guards Etc...).
  • Completing basic vehicle maintenance (Oil Change, Tire Rotation, Vehicle Cleanliness).
  • Maintaining high *Customer Centricity * and customer service.
  • Confirming any GPS equipment has been removed and safely stored at end of shift.
  • Confirming equipment is ready for transport if necessary.
  • Using company issued vehicles for business use only.
  • Turning off unoccupied pickup truck when not in use, and locking doors.

    Safety Expectations

    • Conduct daily toolbox talks prior to production start (Safety and Risk Assessment, Daily production Goals, Crew Member Responsibilities).
    • Mark specific safety hazards on site with supplied blue cones.
    • Conduct Monthly work zone inspections using the TYFOOM tool.
    • Make certain crew members have participated in documented task trainings prior to equipment use.
    • Have clear understanding of procedures in the event of an incident.
    • Demonstrate a clear understanding of safety policy and procedure (TRACK, GOAL, SEE STOP DO, FEET NOT INCHES, BE A SPOTTER GET A SPOTTER, 3 POINTS OF CONTACT, ETC...).
    • Ensure VCRs (Vehicle Condition Report) are completed by all operators daily.
    • Locate, identify, mark, and communicate project specific hazards.
    • Participate in and ensure crew member participation in TYFOOM.
    • Attend and participate in incident review calls.
    • In the event of an incident, ensure incident report is completed and submitted.
    • If manager is unable to, Superintendent must accompany an injured employee needing medical attention.

      Supervisory Responsibilities

      • Will directly supervise a varying number of employees or crews.
      • Will supervise all sub-contractor work on the project.
