About the role
The Appoquinimink Summer Academy offers a unique opportunity for Special Education Teachers and Paraprofessionals to work with students in grades PreK-12 who have been identified as needing special education support. The program runs from July 6, 2026, to August 6, 2026, with specific days and times for each grade level.
Responsibilities
- Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Establishes and maintains a positive, collaborative rapport and communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
- Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
- Plans and uses classroom time effectively.
- Communicates curriculum and student related information effectively in oral and written form.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Summer School Leaders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Hold or eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in subject matter to be taught.
- Strong skills in instructional and behavior management strategies appropriate for diverse learners.
- Must be proficient with technology and follow best practices for online instruction.
- Must have access to reliable internet from home site.
- Past satisfactory evaluations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching.
- Able to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
- Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Able to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
- Able to demonstrate excellent human relations skills.
- Safety Care Training preferred.
