Sugar Specialist

Michigan Sugar Company has a temporary campaign opportunity (September through December) for a Sugar Specialist at the Croswell Factory. This position is an hourly role working various schedules and is part of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers Local #261-G.

Responsibilities

• Operate sugar packaging equipment and load bulk trucks and trailers with sugar or sugar beet co-product to customer specifications while meeting all regulatory and Safe Quality Food requirements.
• Fill and properly measure bulk sugar trailers and rail cars.
• Perform quality checks to verify finished products meet customer requirements.
• Complete necessary documentation for all operations.
• Use computers or adjust machine programming as needed.
• Set up and operate sugar tote filling machine.
• Operate a powdered sugar mill to produce quality products (training provided).
• Report problems to the team leader or other team members for resolution.
• Follow all safe work practices and procedures for assigned tasks.

Requirements

• Previous work experience in a production environment is preferred.
• Able to perform basic computer skills daily and learn the Rapid system.
• Must learn, follow, and promote all AIB, SQF, and GMP quality system guidelines and safety practices; previous quality systems experience is preferred.
• Physically able to lift 50–70 lbs and work in any condition, indoors or outdoors.
• Must maintain a valid forklift license.
• Able to work any shift, weekend overtime, and varying schedules as required.
• Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, use catwalks, bend, and lift throughout the day.
• High school diploma is preferred.
