SUE Tech I
About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a SUE Technician I with the option to work out of one of our North Carolina offices to support our Southeast Region Geospatial / Surveying Team. The successful candidate will be part of a team conducting Subsurface Utility Engineering of all levels.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the development and maintenance of site safety plans.
- Create a culture of safety by observing and complying with all company and related safety rules.
- Assist SUE Analyst/SUE Tech II with day-to-day duties.
- Learn basic operation of electromagnetic and ground penetrating radar utility locating equipment.
- Learn basic data collection with survey equipment.
- Ensure assigned SUE field project tasks and data collection are quality, accurate, and thorough.
- Operate vacuum excavation equipment.
- Drive and operate company vehicles.
- Develop abilities as a SUE Tech.
- Stay current in latest SUE/survey knowledge, techniques, and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0-2 years of experience in the SUE industry.
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a diverse team.
- Willingness to learn, analytical, detail-oriented, goal-driven, problem-solver, self-leader.
- Possession or willingness to develop excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to learn how to use EM and GPR locating equipment.
- Willingness to learn operation vacuum excavation equipment.
- Willingness to learn operation of survey equipment (conventional and GPS).
- Ability to traverse terrain, as project dictates, in all seasons.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs or work as a team to do so.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
- Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening.
- Able to work occasional overtime as project timeline dictates.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Qualifications
- New Graduates with a BS degree in a relevant discipline will be considered.
