SUD Inpatient Nurse Manager -Night Shift
General Summary
Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency providing behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. The Night Shift Unit Manager oversees overnight operations and clinical, operational, and personnel management of the inpatient nursing department.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Directs supervision of all inpatient nursing staff, including CSU nursing personnel.
Serves as the clinical resource for complex medical situations.
Aids with admissions and discharges when necessary.
Provides clinical oversight for Withdrawal Management, Residential, and Crisis Stabilization services.
Coordinates nursing response during medical and psychiatric emergencies.
Maintains regulatory compliance, supports nursing staff, and promotes continuous quality improvement.
Staff Supervision
Daily assignments, break coverage, clinical support, performance coaching, and competency oversight.
Documentation review, workflow management, shift communication, delegation, and escalation of employee concerns.
Immediate coaching regarding nursing assessments, medication administration, emergency response, infection prevention, documentation, and professional conduct.
Operations Management
Ensures efficient daily operations, including staffing assignments, bed board accuracy, admission flow, transfers, discharges, medication inventory, controlled substance accountability, supply management, and equipment readiness.
Maintains shift productivity, nursing workload, and staffing needs.
Coordinates staffing adjustments as necessary.
Documentation & Compliance
Daily auditing of nursing assessments, admission documentation, discharge documentation, MAR accuracy, CIWA documentation, COWS documentation, incident documentation, and provider communication.
Ensures compliance with CARF, Ohio MHAS, CMS, DEAN, and the Nursing Practice Act.
Identifies and corrects documentation deficiencies and provides immediate corrective education.
Quality Improvement
Participates in chart audits, incident reviews, root cause analyses, performance improvement projects, competency validation, skills assessments, mock emergency drills, and trend monitoring.
Provides recommendations for improvement.
Education
Onboards newly hired nurses.
Coordinates clinical orientation, skills validation, annual competencies, mock emergency scenarios, hands-on training, and BLS competency reinforcement.
Serves as a mentor to new nursing staff.
Communication
Serves as a liaison between providers, nursing staff, Behavioral Health, Pharmacy, Admissions, Medical Director, Director of Nursing, Ancillary Departments, and performs effective shift reports.
Participates in interdisciplinary rounds.

Additional Night Shift Responsibilities
Functions as the highest-ranking nursing leader during overnight hours.
Coordinates all overnight admissions, oversees after-hours medical and psychiatric emergencies, serves as the primary escalation point for all nursing staff, coordinates transfers to emergency departments or higher levels of care, performs overnight chart audits, verifies controlled substance counts, ensures completion of overnight assessments, medication administration, and documentation, monitors patient safety rounds and observation compliance, coordinates staffing adjustments and call-offs overnight, ensures readiness of the facility for day shift operations, and communicates all significant overnight events during formal handoff to the Day Shift Unit Manager.
