SUD Counselor - Bilingual (English / Spanish) SUD Treatment

Basic Function
Aid clients in living a life free from chemical dependency. Support clients during the recovery process. Facilitate clients' exploration of their lifestyles, focusing on behavioral patterns.
Responsibilities
- Keep a schedule of regular counseling appointments with clients.
- Be available for non-scheduled counseling or crisis counseling when needed.
- Complete bio-psycho-social assessments for each client.
- Develop a treatment plan based on the assessment, including goals and objectives.
- Show progress or lack thereof in achieving client goals through progress notes and documentation.
- Attend weekly Case Conferences to discuss clients' progress.
- Identify problems or achievements through staff discussions.
- Participate in weekly meetings with the treatment team.
- Act as a liaison between clients and other service agencies.
- Make occasional court appearances.
- Attend and actively participate in monthly in-service training sessions.
- Facilitate groups and educational classes as assigned.
- Provide each client with an individualized Continuing Care Plan.
- Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner, including P.O. reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, aftercare plans, etc.
- Support family members through conjoint sessions and family groups.
- Communicate with all staff regarding client treatment issues.
- Participate in fundraising events and other activities as directed.
Skills / Knowledge
- Identify patterns common to the population served.
- Document client activities and carry out written assignments.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Understand the Narcotics Anonymous and / or Alcoholics Anonymous programs (the Twelve Steps).
- Establish a genuine therapeutic relationship with clients.
- Use counseling techniques to educate, elicit feelings, facilitate self-understanding, and motivate the client.
- Coordinate a continuum of treatment and / or services for clients.
Education / Training
- Registered or certified with CADTP, CAADE, or CCAPP, or Master's level BBS registered.
Experience
- Experience working in SUD treatment.
- Working knowledge of the 12 Steps of NA and AA.
Special Conditions
- Willingness to undergo random drug screenings.
