About the role

Join the Academic Success Center as a Success Coach, supporting students through holistic coaching, leadership in SOAR groups, and collaboration with campus partners. This exempt, 0.92 FTE position operates August through June, with July off.

Schedule

• 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
• Occasional evening and weekend hours, especially during New Student Orientation.
• Flexible work arrangements may be proposed and are subject to approval.
• Travel up to 5% of the work schedule, including local (Twin Cities Metro area) and national travel; overnight trips average 1–2 per year.

Pay

Salary range: $48,754–$54,526.

Responsibilities

• Provide Success Coaching:
  • Develop rapport and meet individually with every student on caseload at least once per semester for holistic support.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to students experiencing academic, personal, financial, or other difficulties (e.g., early alerts, lack of engagement).
  • Develop a Success Plan and meet weekly with students on academic probation.
  • Provide one-on-one academic skills coaching.
  • Collaborate with students to design and confirm developmentally appropriate 4-Year Planning tasks.
  • Send nudges via text on key student responsibilities and success issues (e.g., registration holds, course sequencing, financial aid deadlines).
  • Utilize a software management system to monitor and respond to student needs and maintain accurate records.
• Provide Leadership and Support for SOAR Groups:
  • Co-lead SOAR discussion sections with peer SOAR leaders.
  • Deliver workshops on study/test-taking skills, reading strategies, time management, test anxiety, mindfulness, stress management, and building healthy relationships.
  • Plan, lead, and implement activities to foster belonging and help students build connections with peers, staff, and faculty.
  • Develop holistic coaching materials on resources and support areas, including time management, test anxiety, research-based learning strategies, stress management, and financial wellness.
  • Assist with hiring approximately 115 SOAR Student Peer Leaders.
  • Assist with supervision and mentoring of approximately 24 SOAR Peer Leaders.
• General Office Responsibilities:
  • Provide supplemental advising, especially during registration periods.
  • Assist with Academic Success Center support activities, including meetings, new student orientation, reporting, data collection, and grant writing.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of campus partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complete required training and meet deadlines for the performance management cycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 2+ years of undergraduate or postgraduate experience in student services, such as advising underrepresented students, mentoring, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), study skills development, or academic/other coaching.
• Employment is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check, which may include criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, certifications, motor vehicle checks, DOT certification, credit checks, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical.
