Substitute Translator/Interpreter - Spanish

Basic Function

Under the direction of the Superintendent, translate and produce a variety of general, technical, legal and medical documents, materials and script between English and designated language for schools and district office staff: provide simultaneous interpretations during formal presentations at schools and district meeting sites using interpretation equipment.

Representative Duties

• Read, translate, and produce a variety of documents, forms, materials, information bulletins, website information, handbooks, correspondence and news releases;
• Prepare drafts and finished, proofed translations;
• Produce verbatim translations;
• Provide simultaneous interpretations using a designated language for district and school functions;
• Attend meetings as necessary;
• Translate and interpret minutes of meetings;
• Extract and summarize materials.

Knowledge And Abilities

• Translation and interpreting techniques, procedures and associated equipment;
• Designated language plus English;
• The duties of a Translator – Interpreter;
• Pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary in the designated language;
• Computers, appropriate software for the job and peripheral equipment;
• Modern office procedures and practices.

Education And Experience

• A high school diploma or equivalent;
• Additional training in education or a related field required;
• Experience as an Interpreter - Translator preferred.

Licenses And Other Requirements

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license;
