Kamehameha Schools Maui campus is seeking Substitute Teachers to support our K-12 campus by providing classroom coverage and instructional support as needed throughout the academic year. These are temporary, on-call positions for the 2026–2027 School Year.

On an as-needed basis, serve as a substitute teacher at the elementary, middle, and/or high school levels.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a substitute teacher at the elementary, middle, and/or high school levels.
  • Provide academic support for students enrolled in online courses.
  • Provide academic support for students working independently on assignments, projects, or independent study.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for this requirement.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level.
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and other staff, including discussing topics that may be sensitive.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent teaching experience, coursework, or other activity in area of primary instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current instructional strategies appropriate for students at the specified grade level.
  • Previous experience teaching the age levels and subject areas of the specific teaching position.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, performs desk-based computer tasks, and grasps light or fine manipulation; talks or hears.
  • Occasionally stands and/or walks, writes by hand, and lifts and/or carries, pushes, and/or pulls objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twists, bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crawls, climbs, reaches or works above shoulder, or grasps forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work in non-standard workplaces.
  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands, to conduct business.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday during normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.

Pay

$215.00 daily.
