Position Type: Substitutes/Substitute Teacher. Date Posted: 8/25/2022. Location: New Hanover County Schools. Job Goal: To maintain a safe, orderly environment and high level of student learning when the regular teacher is absent.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a high level of student learning when the regular teacher is absent.

Qualifications

• Non‑certified substitutes: high school diploma or equivalent; 48 credit hours or a college degree preferred; experience working with children preferred.
• Certified substitutes: bachelor’s degree in education with a teaching license.
• Long‑term substitutes: active North Carolina teaching license in the area of the long‑term assignment.

Requirements

• Submit verification of education (high school diploma or official college transcripts) and teaching license if applicable.
• Provide references that include your current or most recent supervisor.
• After pre‑screening: criminal background check and principal interview (assistance available to set up).
• If offered and accepting: complete fingerprinting and online NHCS Substitute Training; also Effective Teacher Training if you do not hold a teaching license.
