Applying for the Role

To apply for the Educational Paraprofessional role, once you have been given an offer, go to https://auth.ohid.ohio.gov/login and make or sign in to your OH|ID account. Click the App Store, choose Educator Licensure and Records (CORE), and pick Educational Aides (1 year) if this is your first license. Enter the Superintendent Signature number: 047001 (Reynoldsburg City Schools), upload your college transcripts, and pay the $25 application fee.

Additional Requirement for Paraprofessionals assigned to an Elementary School

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and academic standards
  • Support students in achieving grade-level proficiency
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instructional support
  • Conduct oral reading sessions for individuals or groups
  • Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning climate
  • Assist students with behavioral, physical, or intellectual needs
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports
  • Help with classroom materials, supplies, and operational tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the educational program

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with students and teachers on academic standards
  • Experience supporting students with proficiency assessments
  • Valid State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit with ESEA Credential

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain discipline and manage behavioral challenges calmly
  • Ability to assist students with a range of physical and intellectual needs
  • Accurate recordkeeping and report preparation
  • Ability to lift boxes, bend, stoop, and reach as needed

Specialized Paraprofessional

  • Assist teachers with lesson delivery and student assessments
  • Support students in classroom activities, including art, music, and PE
  • Assist with toileting, feeding, mobility, and adaptive equipment
  • Prepare behavior charts and maintain accurate records
  • Maintain classroom order and address behavioral challenges calmly
  • Provide clerical support and other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ohio Educational Aide Permit with ESEA Credential
  • 1–2 years’ experience in a paraprofessional role preferred

Skills & Abilities

Library Paraprofessional

  • Support student behavior and classroom management
  • Assist with physical and intellectual needs of students

ESEA Requirements

  • If you are hired as an elementary school, specialized or library paraprofessional, you also need to meet the ESEA requirement. You can do this in one of these ways:
  • Have an associate degree (or higher)
  • Finish at least 48 semester hours of college classes
  • Pass the Ohio ParaPro Test
  • Contact the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio

Bus Driver

  • Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure bus safety and cleanliness
  • Load and unload students at bus stops, assisting younger or special-needs riders as needed
  • Report any maintenance issues to the transportation shop
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude with students, parents, and school staff
  • Participate in required training, safety meetings, and continuing education or certification updates

Positions & Pay Rates

  • Full-Time Bus Driver: Responsible for assigned school bus routes, transporting students safely to and from school each day. Starting Pay Rate w/CDL: $21.75 per hour
  • Substitute Bus Driver: Fill in for regular bus drivers as needed, providing safe, consistent transportation. Pay Rate w/CDL: $20.70 per hour
  • Bus Driver Trainee (while in training): Participate in training to obtain CDL or learn routes before taking on full responsibilities. Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

Getting Started: Training & Credentials

  • CDL & Endorsements: Already have a CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements? Great!
  • If not, we help you obtain your CDL, including classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and preparation for the CDL exam.
  • State Training / Certification: Complete pre-service classes and driver safety training. Pass state or district-mandated assessments/certifications as required.
  • On-the-Job Training: Ride along with experienced drivers before taking your route solo. Ongoing professional development is provided to ensure safety and success.

Work Schedules & Hours

  • Morning routes typically begin early and end mid-morning.
  • Afternoon runs start after school lets out and finish mid- to late afternoon.
  • Hours vary by route assignment (elementary, middle, high school).
  • Opportunities for field trips, shuttle runs, or supplemental driving work for extra pay.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license; willingness/ability to obtain CDL + required endorsements
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and required physical/medical evaluations
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to student safety
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Office Aide/School Secretary

  • Answer phones, greet visitors, and maintain office records
  • Manage correspondence, schedules, and appointments
  • Handle administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and data entry
  • Support students, staff, and parents
  • Keep the office running smoothly
