Substitute Teacher - Orderville UT Seminary

About the role

This temporary, entry-level position helps students learn the restored gospel of Jesus Christ by instructing classes to youth. Responsibilities include lesson preparation, effective lesson presentation, and teaching multiple classes as needed, all under the direction of a program administrator.

The work of this role helps youth and young adults deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, qualify for the blessings of the temple, and prepare themselves, their families, and others for eternal life with their Father in Heaven.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with a program administrator to learn the gospel.
  • Effectively prepare and present lessons to students.
  • Assist students to fulfill their role in the learning process.
  • Teach in the Savior’s Way by focusing on Jesus Christ, loving those you teach, teaching by the Spirit, teaching the doctrine, and inviting diligent learning.
  • Create learning experiences of the restored gospel—centered on Jesus Christ, focused on your students, and rooted in the word of God.
  • Participate in regular training opportunities to improve job performance and career development.
  • Seek for, receive, and act on feedback through student surveys, self-evaluations, and observations from leaders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, motivate, and coach students in developing gospel knowledge and testimonies.
  • Competent ability to use a wide variety of skills and techniques to manage a classroom.
  • Good communication skills and self-awareness of how communication impacts others.
  • Works well with youth and displays genuine empathy toward individuals with a commitment to understanding their challenges.
  • Basic ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by integrity, acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect.
  • Exhibits humility, meekness, and purposeful collaboration with colleagues and peers.
  • Ongoing commitment to learning and self-improvement; willingness to receive feedback and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • General understanding of how to support students with disabilities, including physical, learning, behavioral, emotional, and/or mental health challenges.
  • Alignment with the direction and policies of the Church Board of Education and S&I leadership.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.
  • Must meet the S&I conditions of employment.
  • Frequently communicates with students to exchange accurate information on various topics.
  • Occasionally moves about inside the classroom.
