Substitute Teacher - On Call - 8a-4p, 9a-5p and/or 10a-6p

Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation. It includes eight primary care sites, 40 school-based health centers and dental clinics, four day care centers, the nation's largest dental residency program, and New York State's largest behavioral health program.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Substitute Teacher - On Call. Substitutes work on an as-needed basis, with shifts varying daily based on classroom needs. Shifts can be full day (8 hours), half day (4 hours), or less than half day with a minimum of 2 hours once clocked in. Available shift times include 8a-4p, 9a-5p, and/or 10a-6p.

Responsibilities

• Help serve all meals and snacks, assist children with eating, and clean up the child and eating area.
• Keep the classroom clean, following a specific cleaning checklist posted in each classroom.
• Attend to all physical and emotional needs of the children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
• Check children’s supplies and inform parents when more are needed.
• Communicate thoroughly and regularly with parents regarding all aspects of their child’s activities and development.
• Maintain daily attendance sign-in sheets and roll book.
• Change diapers and/or assist with toileting.
• Interact with children: sit on the floor to play, read to them, etc.
• Hold and carry children when extra comfort is needed.
• Attend to minor bumps and bruises (simple first aid).
• Maintain a calm, positive manner in all communications with children, co-workers, and parents.
• Support other staff members as needed.
• Keep toys clean and in good working order; discard broken items; inform the director of needs for classroom toys/equipment.
• Upon arrival, greet all parents and children; assist with settling the child into the classroom.
• Maintain a cubby and drawer, in an orderly fashion, for each child with his/her name clearly displayed.
• On occasion, help with administrative duties (answering phones, door security, etc.) and other miscellaneous programmatic needs.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write English.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Health and Safety Trainings.
• Previous work experience in childcare.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $17.00 - $17.00 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
