Substitute Teacher - Bishop Reicher

Substitute Teachers fill in for classroom teachers during their temporary absence, providing support, care, and instruction aligned with the mission of Bishop Reicher Catholic School. Substitutes follow detailed lesson plans and guides provided by the classroom teacher, demonstrating dependability and positivity while reporting to the principal.

Ministerial Character

Positions at St. Louis Catholic Church and Bishop Reicher Catholic School extend the ministry of the Pastor. Employees support the Pastor’s vision for the parish and school, fostering relationships, joy, and excellence as examples of integrity within the Diocese of Austin and the State of Texas. This role is closely connected to the Pastor’s ministry and engages in ministry for the Church.

Responsibilities

• Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of Bishop Reicher Catholic School.
• Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
• Adhere to the Standards of Conduct and policies of the school.
• Follow instruction set by the classroom teacher, including logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum.
• Provide appropriate materials and resources for student engagement.
• Practice positive, consistent discipline in classroom management.
• Maintain current and accurate records according to school policies.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Understanding of instructional methods, strategies, and curriculum differentiation.
• Ability to work collaboratively within the school community.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
• Manage student behavior effectively in the classroom.
• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage conflicts effectively.
• Proficiency in job-appropriate technology, organizational management, and delegation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (required).
• College Degree (preferred).
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout employment.

Mental/Physical Tasks

• Talking, listening, standing, walking, grasping, holding, lifting, and carrying.
• Moving heavy equipment, driving, and using office equipment (e.g., stapler, telephone).
• Using personal computers, sitting, bending, pushing, and pulling.
• Reading, comprehending, and visual tasks.

Working Conditions

• All employees are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Principal’s responsibilities.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
• May require working weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Exposure to religious ceremonies, including Christian prayer and Catholic liturgical celebrations.
• Staff meetings and functions may open or close with Christian prayer.
• Adherence to established dress codes and conduct standards.
• Tobacco-free environment in all school buildings and vehicles.
• May require use of personal or school vehicles for off-site travel.
• Travel within and outside the school for meetings or events, including overnight stays.
• Must maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
• Work in multiple educational settings.

Employee Certification

All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin. Employment is at-will, and this document does not constitute a contract or guarantee of employment.

Pay

$15 per hour.
