Substitute Teacher

Position Overview

A substitute teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Qualifications

• Hold a high school diploma or have passed a high school equivalency examination approved by the Board of Education

Responsibilities

• Supports the main school calendar by stepping up when the agreed teacher is unable to perform their full responsibilities
• Follow the lesson plans outlined by the full-time teacher
• Responsible for overseeing student behavior in class and surrounding areas
• Ability to maintain normal classroom routines and discipline within the classroom
• Responsible for taking roll and reporting absentees each day

Requirements

• Complete the Cultural Competency Module
• Complete the Dyslexia Module
• Complete Child Abuse Recognition & Intervention Training Module
• Complete the Behavior Intervention & Support Module required by the VDOE
• Provide copy of CPR/First Aid/AED Training certificate (if applicable)
• National Child Care Background Fingerprinting
• Tuberculosis Testing
