About the Role

Join a team that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families around the world. This position involves assisting in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom, supporting the implementation and coordination of all related functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing educational experiences that:
    • Instill in each child a good self-image and sense of self-worth
    • Develop language arts and skills for all children
    • Include multicultural and folklore elements into the program
    • Ensure all children receive individual attention
  • Be present in the classroom before children arrive each morning, unless assigned other duties by a supervisor
  • Ensure safety in all areas, including:
    • Classroom
    • Playground
    • Restrooms
    • Classroom and outdoor equipment
  • Make the best use of volunteer help
  • Assist with child assessments and screenings
  • Support field trips and other school functions
  • Assist with home-style meal service for children
  • Report illnesses, accidents, or student absences of three days or more to the Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and all in-service trainings
  • Maintain mandated training hours and documentation as required
  • Keep classroom and other areas clean and neat at all times
  • Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with children
  • Acquire and maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification
  • Assist with daily activities, including maintaining staff/child ratios, discipline, and safety of all children
  • Identify, report, and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the appropriate manager or director
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED (required)
  • Two years of related experience in a preschool classroom setting (preferred)
  • Ability to serve and effectively communicate with children and families with no or limited English proficiency
  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision
  • Ability to operate office machinery
  • Diplomacy and tact in interactions
  • Strict confidentiality regarding all student information
  • Ability to report suspected child abuse/neglect to administrators and law enforcement
  • Adherence to all Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures, as well as DFPS and OHS regulations and standards
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of a health examination
  • Confirmation of work eligibility status
  • Clear driving history and criminal background check
  • Physical ability to:
    • Lift up to 60 pounds
    • Stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel
    • Lift children and engage in physical activities with them
