Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with daily instruction
  • Auxiliary support to students in achieving their individual objectives
  • Assistance and care in activities such as dressing, eating, drinking, toileting and grooming
  • Assistance in restraining students
  • Tutoring students individually and in groups
  • Monitoring classroom when teacher is otherwise occupied
  • Performing clerical functions under the teacher’s direction
  • Evaluating students’ work under the teacher’s direction
  • Communicating effectively with patrons and students
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Skills in the use of computers
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to successfully complete the Substitute Orientation
  • Conscientiously accept and follow directions
  • Adaptability to a variety of situations
  • Fundamental understanding of special education students
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • In good health
  • Adaptability to a variety of situations

Qualifications

  • Speaking, hearing, manual dexterity (coordination of eye/hand for such activities as typing, calculation, word processing, and other similar activities)

  • May be required to provide physical assistance and personal care for students with a variety of disabilities
