Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 940 students and employs over 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.” We are currently seeking an experienced Substitute School Nurse to cover planned and occasional same-day absences. This role will provide support with preventive health services that facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Essential Functions Attend to the daily well-being of the students as neededManage students’ chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma and seizure disordersProvide daily medications to studentsAdminister provisions for first aid and emergency care; triage and determine the appropriate action to be taken and communicate information to parents and the related division officeConsult with students, faculty, staff, and parents on health concerns they bring to the nurseAssist with updating medical records of students as neededReport the health status of individual students which may have a bearing on a child’s situation at school to administrationStay up to date on new policies, procedures and guidelines at city, district, state and national levelsAssist in assuring that the school is properly reporting cases of communicable diseasesMake recommendations on health and safety practices which need additional attentionOther duties as assigned Required Qualifications Minimum of two years clinical nursing experience as a Registered NurseCurrent Illinois Registered Nurse LicenseCurrent CPR CertificationPrior experience working in a school environment or with childrenAbility to operate various diagnostic equipmentAbility to work effectively without direct supervisionAbility to relate well with students, staff, and publicAbility to competently work with software such as Google Docs and Microsoft ExcelAbility to learn new charting software to document medication administration, collect medical forms, troubleshoot parent questions, etcAbility to communicate effectively, orally and in writing Compensation $35 per hour; this position is not eligible for benefits.
