This is a continuous posting for the current school year and beyond. We will regularly invite interested applicants for testing and/or processing.
Requirements
- Copy of college transcripts showing a minimum of 48 semester units from an accredited college/university OR request to take the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) exam with the district. The NCLB exam is a rigorous multiple-choice exam that tests proficiency in undergraduate core classes.
- Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance.
- Submit to a general tuberculosis examination.
- Be fingerprinted.
- Complete a pre-placement physical examination.
- Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
- Pass a drug test (the District has a drug-free workplace policy).
- Successfully pass all examination parts pertaining to the classification to attain placement on the eligibility list.
Certification & Eligibility
- When a vacant position is to be filled, the Classified Personnel Director submits the names of the top three “ranks” to the appointing power for selection.
- Names of those not appointed remain on the eligibility list, which is normally in effect for one year.
- Employee service credit: Regular employees of the Escondido Union School District receive a credit of 0.5 points for each complete year of service (up to a maximum of 5 points) added to their final composite scores in an open examination.
- Veterans and disabled veterans preference points, as defined in Education Code Section 45196, are added to passing scores in an open examination for entry-level classifications.
Probation & Employment Status
- Substitute employees are "at-will" with no employment rights beyond pay for service rendered.
- Initial appointment into a regular status position includes a probationary period not to exceed six months or 130 days of paid service (including days worked, approved vacation days, and designated holidays).
Benefits
- Health Insurance: Employees working 5 hours or more receive family medical coverage, employee life and vision coverage, and employee or family dental coverage.
- Retirement: All new employees working four hours or more must enroll in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security. Contributions are made by both the District and employees.
- Holidays: Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for 16 authorized holidays (for twelve-month employees), provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
- Sick Leave: Regular full-time twelve-month employees earn 12 days of paid sick leave per year, with no limit on accumulation. Sick leave is prorated for employees working less than twelve months.
- Vacation: Regular full-time twelve-month employees earn 12 days of paid vacation leave per year, with increased days after 5 years of service. Vacation is prorated for employees working less than twelve months.
- Longevity Pay: Increments are added to base pay effective July 1 after completing the required years of service:
- 9 years: 3.5%
- 14 years: 7.123%
- 19 years: 12.158%
- 24 years: 16.644%
- 29 years: 21.310%
- 34 years: 26.162%
- 39 years: 31.209%
- 44 years: 36.457%
- 49 years: 41.915%
- 54 years: 47.592%
- 59 years: 53.495%
- Shift Differential: Employees required to work more than four hours of their regular shift (non-overtime) between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. receive a 3.75% pay increase for the entirety of each applicable day.
- Professional Growth: After one year of service, regular classified employees may earn additional salary increments for improving skills through continuing education.
