Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
  • Provides social, emotional, and educational support for students with special needs.
  • Provides direct academic, functional, vocational and specifically-designed instruction.
  • Serves as advocate and support of students with disabilities in their least restrictive environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Experience and/or training working with special education and/or developmentally or behaviorally challenged students preferred.

Knowledge

  • Child development and behavior.
  • Reading, writing and arithmetic.
  • Safety procedures for students.
  • Basic lifting techniques.

Skills

  • Remains flexible and works under pressure.
  • Has a positive mental attitude when working with special needs students.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Works with students in a warm and confident manner.
  • Works effectively as a member of a team.
  • Follows directions.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respects between students, parents and teachers.
  • Maintains positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the public.
  • Maintains physical abilities to perform all necessary tasks.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and District and Legal requirements.
  • Maintains punctuality and attendance expectations.

Education & Experience

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Preference given to applicants with experience and/or training working with special education and/or developmentally or behaviorally challenged students.

Physical Requirements

  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Pay

$28.75/hour to $31.30/hour depending upon assignment.

Schedule

On-call positions. The number of days or hours that a substitute works is dependent upon the number of staff in the position who are absent on any given day. No specific guarantee of work is offered.
