Substitute: Monitor (2026-27)

About the role

Assist the principal in providing a safe, well-monitored environment for all students.

Qualifications

Ability to relate to students, staff, and parents. Organized and efficient manager of time. Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent. Current First Aid/CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide for the safety of students at assigned work area by enforcing the rules for the site.
• Administer basic First Aid and assistance to students.
• Help settle disputes between students through problem-solving methods.
• Report and document serious concerns/incidents to the school administration.
• Be aware of potentially hazardous conditions in the assigned work area.
• Promote opportunities for cooperative interaction/play between students as appropriate to the assigned work area.
• Help monitor special circumstances/needs for individual children.
• Work cooperatively with other staff members in the school.
• Keep track of playground equipment on a daily basis.
• Be a positive role model for children.
• Work with students in behavioral remediation settings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Environment

Job duties involve sitting, walking, standing, stooping, crouching and climbing. May be exposed to high noise levels. May be required to deal with distraught students. Work is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

For on-call positions, eligibility for benefits is determined by a number of factors, including the number of hours an employee worked during the last two school years. Regular employees who are not in on-call positions and are anticipated to work 630 hours or more in a year are eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement, life insurance, long-term disability, and the employee assistance program. Pay

The substitute rate for the 2026-2027 school year is $21.76.
