The School Bus Monitor position supports the Special Programs Bus Driver in ensuring safe and punctual transportation.
About the Role
The School Bus Monitor assists the Special Programs Bus Driver in managing student behavior, securing passengers, and addressing special needs during transportation. This role involves preparing for and assisting with emergency evacuations, reporting incidents, and collaborating with the bus driver.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective management of student behavior on the school bus.
- Ensure all passengers are in appropriate safety securement systems and seatbelts.
- Understand and manage the needs of special education students based on Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Collaborate with the bus driver to deliver children to responsible adults upon departure.
- Prepare for and assist with emergency evacuations.
- Handle emergency situations calmly and quickly.
- Report incidents affecting student safety.
- Attend scheduled meetings and safety programs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of school district practices or policies.
- Ability to lift, carry, or assist students on and off the bus.
- Physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill essential functions.
- First aid and CPR certification within 120 days of hire.
- Average of 8 classroom training hours per year or 32 hours in 4 years.
Qualifications
- Must be able to drag 125 pounds 30 feet in 30 seconds.
