Substitute Bus Driver

Qualifications

• High school or general education diploma preferred
• Excellent driving record
• Possesses Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements
• Mets all federal, state, and local district requirements for the operation of a school bus
• Passes background check and random drug testing
• Able to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties
• Able to work with students of all backgrounds
• Able to carry out assigned route on time

Responsibilities

• Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures
• Performs pre-trip inspections on bus and reports any mechanical, electrical, or safety issues to the Transportation Department
• Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops safely
• Maintains a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
• Obeys all traffic laws
• Ensures safety of all students
• Assists students with getting on and off the bus, when required
• Attends safety meetings
• Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy
• Performs periodical safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports upon request
• Operates a two-way radio
• Other duties, as assigned
