Substation Trainer / Technical Training Instructor

About the role
This position blends hands-on instruction with classroom-style training for groups of roughly 10-20, and is ideal for someone with substation experience who enjoys teaching and can translate complex technical work into practical, user-friendly learning for field crews. You'll serve as a technical subject matter expert, occasionally going onsite to train, while working mainly from the Providence office.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical training programs using a blended, hands-on approach that mirrors real-world field tasks
- Design, develop, and update procedures such as checklists, job aids, and work methods
- Coordinate review of new and revised procedures with Safety, Engineering Standards, and other groups
- Support field operations in building equipment mock-ups and simulations for training
- Facilitate adoption of work procedures through presentations, committees, and process-improvement meetings
- Support new technology initiatives and incorporate them into training materials
- Administer learning records, testing, and technical assessments
- Fulfill assigned emergency and storm roles, which may require occasional after-hours work during company response efforts
Requirements
- Substation experience required
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (year for year); electric utility / journeyman-equivalent experience preferred for higher levels
- Ability to occasionally travel onsite to train
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and technical communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Familiarity with switching and tagging procedures and substation test equipment a plus
Candidates will be hired into the appropriate level based on education and experience.

Schedule

- Core hours 8am-5pm with flexibility
Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000 per year
